Norvox provides services primarily to Norwegian artists who have composed music and/or songs they wish to publish in other marketable territories than their own, assisting in building a foreign fanbase, heightening awareness of their music abroad and capitalising on their own talent through much larger platforms than available here in Norway.
English is accepted and published commonly in Norway, from nationals as often as imported artists, as indeed is the traditional and modern language on Norwegian radio and published albums alike. However, in the ten years I have travelled throughout Scandinavia, I have been asked many times by various artists from different backgrounds to write lyrics for their music or correct script for their latest opus or even compile album credits and titles acceptable for the American and English markets.
As an English writer and vocalist myself, I have been writing commercial material for thirty five years, culminating in a career in Norway for the last decade with the band TNT.
Settled now in Tjøme and steeped in Norwegian culture and surroundings permanently, I constantly write songs in radio friendly English - with a constant eye on the American tendency, and I have co-written and released many albums through recording companies in Europe, the United States and Japan.
I have been called upon to provide backing vocal arrangements by many artists in Norway and the U.K. for several years and to stand as lead vocalist for different reasons, from demonstration recordings for contracts, to covering absenteeism or events for major companies and their celebrations.
Some artists have not attempted to release or even record their material in English through a lack of belief that it would be accepted by anyone other than a Norwegian speaking audience. How wrong they are! Both English and American audiences are keen followers of Norwegian artists and their musical output from across the water and constantly want to hear more. So there are great opportunities and a lucrative market abroad for Norwegian composers who are interested in performing their music with English lyrics to support foreign radio and internet broadcasting.
Many artists I have met in Norway, do not consider the lyric of the song to be important against the main theme of their music, but that is a debatable issue and for an artist like myself, the story behind the song when it is portrayed in an emotional and dynamic way lyrically, is as valuable as the accompaniment itself and should be treated as such. It is fair to say that English and American writers hold their music and lyrics equally dear and it is common to share the writing credits equally for compositions, which indicates the importance of both when it comes to an artists income. When I ask an artist if there is any specific subject matter he would like his song to portray and his response is, ‘Oh, anything you like, it doesn’t matter’, it defies logic when it actually equates to half of the income gained from the art and it matters a great deal. One of the first songs I wrote lyrics for in the heady days of the 1980’s was a deciding factor when the contract was signed for nearly 9 million NOK and its sister publishing contract for 1.25 million NOK. So, lyrics can swing it!
